NYSC reforms: Civilian DG, Six-Week Orientation.
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a comprehensive reform of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), the first comprehensive review of the program since its inception 53 years ago.

The FEC restructured the one-yearscheme into 111 specialized skills-based streams, redesigning theorientation camppprograme anduniform andd directing that the NYSC Act be amended to give the changes immediate legal effect.

Thministerer oyouth development,t, Ayodele Olawande, stated that the reforms are the first major review of the NYSC since its inception i1973 andnd that they were developed in consultation with the ministries of youth development and education, as well as the office of thspecial adviserer to thpresidentnt opolicy coordination.n.

He emphasized that the reforms aim to strengthen national unity, promote skill development, create jobs, and empower young people throughout the country.

Hadiza Bala Usman, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Coordination and Head of the Central Results Delivery Coordination Unit (CRDCU), stated that with the reform, the NYSC will be led by a civilian in terms of operational leadership.

She stressed that the military will continue to handle security for corps members across the country.
