INEC had recently disclosed a consequential amendment to the timeline for the Osun State governorship election campaign following a change in the poll date.
In
a press statement on Thursday signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman
Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, the commission
recalled that it had previously adjusted election schedule dates including
rescheduling of Osun governorship poll with one week.
“A
reminder, that on the 26th day of February 2026, INEC released its Revised
Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election and also
moved the date of Osun State Governorship Election one week forward from the
earlier designated date of August 8, 2026 to either August 15 to allow for
adjustment.
The
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday said the alteration
has now synced with the statutory provisions of political campaigns in the
state.
“This
modification has consequently made midnight Thursday, August 13,2026, the last
day for political parties’ campaigns in the state as per Section 98(1) of the
Electoral Act 2026 that stipulates that campaigns must stop 24hours before
election day,” Commission said.
The
electoral body further warned all stakeholders to adhere strictly to the new
timetable against an enabling environment to conduct efficient elections.
The
Commission implores that political and candidate parties, stakeholders must
adhere strictly to the timeline.
The
News Agency of Nigeria reports that INEC had reinforced its position over
conducting transparent elections in the country.
The statement quoted its chairman as saying: “NEC remains committed to the conduct of free, fair, credible and inclusive elections.
